3D-printed mounts for the T818
When I am not driving, I also enjoy improving the small details of my cockpit. In this April 2023 video, I present two parts I designed around my Thrustmaster T818's new quick release: a mount for storing wheels and an insert for using the wheelbase position differently. Both are simple projects that grew out of practical needs in my setup.
Storing my two wheels
I own two wheels and wanted to store them neatly when they were not mounted on the base. I therefore used Fusion 360 to design a holder that suited their new attachment.
The printed part has an 8 mm hole for mounting it on a cockpit extrusion or a wall. I had seen holders for the older Thrustmaster attachments; this time, my need concerned the T818's new system. This project is about wheel storage, with a part dedicated to that purpose.
Turning the base into a tablet holder
I also play flight simulators and space games such as Star Citizen. For those sessions, I wanted to place an iPad in that part of the cockpit so I could comfortably use the GameGlass app.
I designed a second piece that follows the quick release's shape and that I call the insert. It provides a surface for attaching an accessory with double-sided tape. The demonstration therefore addresses a different use from the wall mount: keeping a convenient mounting position in front of me when I am not using the wheel.
The projects announced at the time
I also mention an adapter for third-party wheels, still at the prototype stage. The video ends by announcing a giveaway tied to that month's subscriber targets, with a pack containing two mounts and one insert. That announcement belongs to April 2023 and does not describe a current promotion.
