Installing the 200 mm MOZA extension on R5 and R9 V2

Here I show how to fit a 200 mm MOZA extension using the procedure intended for the R5 and R9 V2. The video dates from October 2023, and I describe the kit as probably a V2. The kit revision and connectors matter: for the R9 V1, R16 and R21, I refer to the corresponding MOZA procedure rather than treating every installation as identical.

Note the orientation before disassembly

The kit shown includes two sets of screws and two JST cables. Before removing the base-side quick-release head, I note its orientation: it must face the same way when fitted to the end of the extension. I emphasise this at both the beginning and end of the procedure.

I first remove the six M4 Allen screws from the head, followed by the two M3 cover screws. This provides access to the JST cable underneath the board. I disconnect it before separating the quick-release head.

Route the connection through the extension

I connect the extension cable and feed it through the entire rod. The base end attaches through the unthreaded holes using the original M4 screws.

I then place the quick-release head at the other end and secure it with the supplied flat-head M4 screws. The original base screws and the kit's screws therefore have different locations in this assembly.

Close it with the correct alignment

I reconnect the cable to the board and reinstall the cover with its original M3 screws. Before finishing, I check the orientation of the head and connection board once more.

This tutorial covers that mechanical and electrical assembly. It does not establish universal compatibility across every base or extension revision: the connector and kit version need to match the installation concerned.
