Simracing news: October 2023

In this October 2023 news round-up, published in early November, I cover rFactor 2 multiplayer, the launch of Forza Motorsport and hardware announcements around the SimRacing Expo.

rFactor 2 organises its online racing

The new multiplayer system is then in open beta, with separate safety and performance ratings. Beginner races can be entered without buying extra content, while progression opens further car-and-track combinations.

I tried the BMW offered with this launch and found the force feedback I enjoy in rFactor 2. The system also belongs to the period leading up to Le Mans Ultimate, which had yet to arrive when I recorded this edition.

Forza Motorsport launches with fixes to follow

Forza Motorsport's release is another major event that month. I highlight a launch affected by problems, including force feedback, alongside reservations about the graphics. I report Turn 10's intention to develop the game over time through updates and content. This is a launch overview rather than a complete review.

Hardware around the SimRacing Expo

The Dortmund event draws attention to cockpits, motion systems and direct-drive bases. From Fanatec, I pick out the 12 and 15 Nm announcements with FullForce, plus the QR2 in Lite, standard and Pro versions. I relay early reports without presenting this section as my own test of every product.

Asetek expands its wheel options with La Prima and Forte button boxes paired with different rim shapes.

Thrustmaster and LFM

For Thrustmaster, I discuss the Ferrari 488 GT3, telemetry lighting on the T818 and the mobile profile-management app. I found the latter awkward to install, although it did its job once configured.

Finally, LFM introduces its own balance of performance for ACC during season 12. Timed laps on dedicated servers provide the data collection. The stated aim is to balance cars more closely within its competitions, a change affecting the organisation of races as well as vehicle choice.
